Walking

Not enough can be said about walking. Walking is by far the easiest, safest and most practical fitness activity around. If you are looking to lose weight, get in shape or to live a healthier lifestyle, add walking to it. Here are some great suggestions.

It is so easy to enjoy walking these days. No matter where you live, what your schedule or what your age is, walking is a fitness exercise that should be on top of your list. It is extremely easy to walk and you usually don’t need any special equipment, except for some comfortable shoes. Walking also is considered low impact, meaning that this type of exercise has a very low risk of causing injury to your body. If you are looking for an easy exercise to participate in, that has a small risk of injury and delivers benefits, you can’t do much better than walking.

Walking is also fantastic at burning calories. For a moderate walk of 3 mph, you can lose from 250 to 300 calories. This is about the same calorie burn rate as lifting weights. Walking is also fun, you can listen to your favorite music on your iPod, or walk with your friends or family and have an interesting conversation.

For many people that live in the suburbs and use their cars to go everywhere, change your lifestyle and try to walk a few places a week. It’s good to walk at least three times a week for about a half an hour. If there aren’t sidewalks in your neighborhood or the weather is not good, look into purchasing a treadmill, where you can walk at anytime in the comfort of your own home. If you are looking for a great way to exercise, take a look at walking.
